Antelope Valley Line - Worth the Hype?

Writer's picture: TheTrainGuy4TheTrainGuy4

With TSW4 now out on 'early access,' we now have the first Metrolink route available to drive on. But is it overhyped? (TL:DR Slightly)

First stop: price.

Antelope Valley is not yet available as a standalone product. If purchased in a bundle with the pre-order discount or loyalty discount it is quite reasonably priced. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a slight bit of gouging in the standalone packs. 8/10.

Gameplay.

The gameplay here is a bit boring- not quite as much as ECML, but certainly not anything near as interesting operations-wise as Vorarlberg. There are many non-revenue runs to and from the included depot. Additional service runs range from 20 minutes to 2 hours and 20 minutes. The scenarios are also generally quite good too. 6/10

Detail.

The scenery here is variable. I feel DTG have failed to adequately capture whatever liveliness exists within LA. Outside of LA however the scenery is generally of adequate standard. The distant scenery is not ruined by trees as it is in Vorarlberg as because the route runs through a semi-arid environment there really aren't many trees to speak of. 7/10
